What is the doctrine of Eternal Security?
Eternal Security is the concept that once an individual has believed in Christ and then been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, they are forever held by the power of God and can never lose their salvation.

Eternal Security is the concept that once an individual has believed in Christ and then been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, they are forever held by the power of God and can never lose their salvation.
“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life. - John 5:24
Understanding the role of the Holy Spirit is foundational to grasping this doctrine. Ephesians 1:13-14 states that when we believe in Christ, the Holy Spirit is given to us as a guarantee of our inheritance. Some other translations render the original Greek word Arrabon (Greek: ἀρραβών) as deposit, pledge, first installment, or earnest, which all convey the idea that the full amount will subsequently be paid. Therefore, when we place our faith in Christ and are sealed by the Holy Spirit, God is making a promise to us that we will receive our full inheritance when Christ returns in glory.
John 3:16 & John 10:28 both reaffirm the certainty that once we have received eternal life, it is impossible for us to perish or be snatched out of the Father’s hand. If eternal life could be taken away, that life was not indeed eternal but rather probationary.
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 (CSB)
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. -John 10:28 (CSB)
We are saved by grace, through faith and not of works, so if we can’t work our way to heaven, the inverse is also true, that we can’t work our way out of heaven and lose eternal life. Christ is our steady anchor, we are safe in Him.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39 (CSB)
I started Secure in Christ because I believe eternal security is foundational to the Gospel message. Jesus does not want us to just hope that we have eternal life, but He wants us to know with absolute certainty that we have eternal life, and this life is in His name. Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved (Acts 16:31).
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. - 1 John 5:13 (CSB)
I'm a Christian who's passionate about the Bible, studying theology and helping others find rest in Christ.

Rethinking Matthew 7:21-23: What Did Jesus Mean?
What’s the point of this Christian walk, if there’s a possibility it could all be in vain? But what if I told you you’ve probably misunderstood this passage and that Jesus was not trying to stir up fear in believers but rather the self-righteous.
